Beyond The Trek (aka Teleios) - 2017
The premise starts out simply enough. A ship called the Teleios arrives at Jupiter's moon Titan with a crew who has been in stasis for the trip. They must find out why a much larger ship that is already there mining a substance vital for the survival of Earth has stopped responding. From there, things get more complicated.
The main characters are genetically modified humans, designed to be physically and mentally ideal. They are beautiful to look at, but some of the performances are a little wooden. The special effects aren't awful, there are some impressive sets, wall displays, and machinery, but overall the budget wasn't sufficient to really pull it off like it deserves.
The story makes me wish the movie was better than it was. It was also written by director Ian Truitner. The movie did have a little bit too much exposition, a little bit too much telling rather than showing (again that might be due to a relatively small budget), but it was a pretty entertaining science fiction tale. A story of technology gone wrong, greed, murder, love, and sacrifice that hit me right in the feels more than once. This is the most recent direction/writing work by Ian at the time of this writing, and I hope he goes on to do more with bigger budgets to come.
Overall, I give it a thumbs up. Some online sources say Teleios is the primary title, but my DVD and those available on Amazon show it as Beyond The Trek.
